Balearica regulorum gibbericeps. Also known as: East African crowned crane, East African crane, Eastern crowned crane. Greater kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) observes from foreground. Location: Kingdom of the Wild.
This visit was actually my first time successfully photographing the species. Its an animal I just never gave the time of day. Unfortunately I think I tend to really fixate on the kinds of animals I know how to photograph well and end up not branching out.
They do this ritual every 30 minutes or so. Makes for some dramatic photos. It a challenge to get the entire head in frame because the crane kept moving it but I'm glad I was able to succeed in capturing it.
