Seeing how it‘s nearly been three years since the original layout was first made. Since then, I made my decision to remake the entire complex, with a redesigned layout that is highlighted below:
I have no idea what is going on with this individual's eyes. I've tried to research it but I've found no information. If anyone knows, feel free to share. It certainly makes it a very intriguing subject. I always focus on this individual when I'm at Sea Lion Sound.
The pinnipeds are definitely challenging to photograph, but its almost addicting. Playing with the reflections in the water and how their movement distorts them is really fun. I'm not sure what is going on with this particular individual's eyes. If anyone knows, feel free to share!
One of the harbor seals, at Assiniboine zoo! This was taken during a behind the scenes tour on October 16th, 2021. This is a rare view- Seal beach is the only area where they surface, and is not accessible to the public. All the seals at Assiniboine are rescues from Vancouver, and are all male.
One thing that seems to be really hard to do is to build an outstanding pinniped (i.e. sea lion, fur seal, harbour seal, grey seal etc.) enclosure - especially in Europe. While North America already has had some truly amazing pinniped enclosures for decades, Europe is really trailing behind...
