During April 17th-20th of next year, I'm travelling to California for 3 (possibly 3.5 days). I'm going to be in San Francisco and I don't want to be that rushed. For the Friday & Saturday, I'm likely going to San Diego Zoo (any layout/paths for each day?) and then on Sunday, I'm going to another...
I Just been to both the San Diego Zoo and it's Safari Park for the first time and they did not disappoint, but I was wondering what animal ambassadors they have at both places since I didn’t have time to see them?
Hello!
I am interested in booking the Deluxe Behind-the-Scenes Safari at the SDZ Safari Park. However, the description given on the webiste seems pretty vague. I've tried calling the zoo for more info, but they seem hesitant to make any definitive statements. I understand that this is because...
Hello, I am currently planning a trip to San Diego for early September. I am planning on visiting the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and Sea World San Diego. This will be my first time visiting these zoos
I am hoping I could get some advice on a few things.
for San Diego Zoo:
- Could the entire...
After many months of anticipation, I finally visited the San Diego Zoo for the second time in my life (the first time was around 2010 or 2011 when I was less than 12 years old. While it was nice, I hate to admit it, but overall I sort of found the zoo rather underwhelming and a bit disappointing...
What are the ungulate species and pure subspecies no longer held in the United States of America and Canada? This is a big question that I would guess no one has the answer to but has been of interest to me after repeatedly reading scattered information about the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo...
Adira the red panda escaped from her exhibit by climbing a tree, and using some other nearby branches outside the area to climb out. Fortunately, she was coaxed back down and safely returned.

Two of the Park’s younger male gorillas, Frank (age 14) and Monroe (age 11) have been separated from the troop, and settled into a separate exhibit as a bachelor troop.

Fur is flying over PETA-sponsored bill to ban animal circuses in California
Make no mistake, this isn’t about circuses. This bill would stop the use of traveling animal educational shows and shut down smaller centers and sanctuaries.
Around the 80's the safari park had a very succesful saga breeding project with around 100 calves being born. When did they get rid of them, where did they move them to, and how come they got rid of them if they had such wide success with them?
I’ve asked this question before, very few times actually getting a thorough answer, so I thought I’d make this thread to discuss a question that’s been on my mind for quite some time now: How come everyone loves the San Diego Zoo so much? It’s certainly a great zoo with an incredible collection...
This thread by @The_UltimateBea is called "The Best Zoological City". Different ZooChatters suggested what city they think is the best for zoo nerds. That got me thinking, if there was poll, which city would be voted the highest. So here it is. Each city suggested in that thread has an option on...
Although it is most certainly along ways away with construction starting no earlier than 2021, San Diegans can expect a new aquarium downtown. It will be built on the site of what is now seaport village as part of a mixed use redevelopment of the area which will be known as SeaPort San Diego. It...
For those of you that have been to this zoo, what is you favorite exhibit and why?
My most favored exhibit is the Asian Leopards habitat near Panda Trek. It is always fascinating to see the creatures above the pathways on the catwalks, a place which one or two always seem to be. In addition...

This is a map of the San Diego Zoo, with areas color-coded by prowess/need of renovation.
Green = meets or exceeds expectations
Yellow = sub-par
Red = renovation candidate
Do you agree with my assesment? What would you change...
BC and UJ are the two areas at the SD Zoo in most obvious need of renovation (other than Elephant Odyssey). Do you think something could be done with the two together or is the elavation change between the two too steep to join them? What would be your overall plan for those areas?
