Generic animals in lieu of extinct subspecies?

I've been thinking of using generic ostrich in lieu of Arabian ostrich, and I'm wondering if something similar has been done in zoos already. Afterall, many large animal species exant today, such as lions and leopards, historically had much wider distributions than today.

Captive Markhor Subspecies in North America

I have seen markhor in the United States collections referred to as Turkmenian markhor, Tadjik Markhor, and Bukharan markhor. It is my understanding that this is the same subspecies, Capra falconeri heptneri. Are the markhor found here in the United States of America only of this subspecies...

    ZTL subspecies (mis)identifications?

Zootierliste (ZTL) is perhaps my favourite website on the planet along with this one. A free database listing every species or subspecies housed in EAZA collections and which collections house them with (most of the time) pictures attached. It is a brilliant resource, and one that I use...

    Goldman's Jaguar/North American Jaguar?

Does anybody know anything about Goldman's Jaguar. The only info I have found is that Cameron Park zoo has them and that they live in Central and North America. I'm slightly confused by it's taxonomical existence so if anybody has any information on them that would be great.

    Subspecific Tigers in US Zoos

Per a discussion on the Discord server and another current thread, I used @TinoPup's Felids of the United States to make a comparison of where subspecific tigers can be found in the US. Here is the breakdown I have come up with so far; asterisks indicate non-AZA: Amur Tiger, Panthera tigris...

    Binturong subspecies

I've tended not to pay much attention to subspecies of mammals, however I've noticed people here and elsewhere distinguish two main subspecies of binturong. Wikipedia lists eleven subspecies, but googling indicates seems to be two main clades. Zootierliste has three subspecies held in zoos...
