    Bioparc Genève news thread

This thread is dedicated to the news from the Bioparc de Genève, a park that seems overlooked here. For the first news in this thread, I report the birth of 0.0.1 Ring-tailed Lemur (ok it's a very common species) on March 25th. Bioparc Genève on Instagram: "Explorer le monde à dos de maman -...
  9. Philipine eagle

Philippine eagle spotted above the Alpes

For the first time in ages a monkey-eating eagle, searching for bearded dragons, suricates and red-necked wallaby, has been seen flying over some Alpine countries. Observers said it looked well-fed. It is unknown where the bird came from.

    Sikypark Crémines news

2 female Tigers called JASMINA and SERON recently arrived in the Sikypark Crémines Zoo. They are probably generic animals, I don't know their origin. Sikypark Crémines on Instagram: "Willkommen Jasmina und Seron Wir freuen uns, euch mitzuteilen, dass die beiden Tigerinnen Jasmina und Seron...

Can you spot the Atlas Moths?

In this picture I took on 18.01.22 are a couple of Atlas Moths. How many can you spot? :)

  13. Kitoko with her "twins"

    Kitoko with her "twins"

08.02.22 Sangala sits on Kitoko's shoulder, Sabaki is sitting in front of her. Sabaki is Kitoko's son. Sangala is Fifi's half-sister's daughter. Fifi was not able to rear Sangala due to health reasons. Kitoko was still pregnant at that time and took over. This is why she has now "twins".

Sabaki takes a break from his mum :)

08.02.2022 One of the older kids picked up Sabaki for a little tour. Not sure if it is his brother Obaye or Obuasi, another female youngster, born in 2017.
  15. Mbali (2013)

    Mbali (2013)

Our "Lion King". He died end of January this year, aged almost twenty. I live close to the zoo and at night we were able to hear him roar. So strange, to not hear that anymore.
  16. Lion (1980)

    Lion (1980)

Photo taken by my parents in 1980. The old outdoor enclosure of the lions. We had a lot of big cats (lions, tigers, panthers/leopards). They demolished the house and now we only have lions. But that's absolutely fine :)
  17. Barbary Sheep (1980)

    Barbary Sheep (1980)

A scanned photo, which was taken by my parents in 1980. It's the rock/enclosure, where nowadays the Snow Leopards and the Crab-eating Macaques live. Sorry, but I don't have a clue, what these goats (?) are called.
  18. Polar Bears (1980)

    Polar Bears (1980)

Scanned photo, taken by my parents in 1980. As a kid it was nice to see a Polar Bear. But as an adult, seeing this photo, I have to say it was good, that they used the space for the outdoor enclosures of the Geigy house (apes)/the playground.
  19. Lazima & Qisenge

    Lazima & Qisenge

Lazima played with her younger sister Qisenge. When it got a bit louder in the group, Qisenge seeked shelter with Lazima. It's so nice to see, that Lazima, who grew up as an "only child" is growing up and takes over responsibilities.

Looking for the location of chimpanzee Sebastian (Switzerland)

Heyo! My name is Kr0xxx and I work as an assistant zookeeper with the primates at Aalborg Zoo, Denmark. We are currently home to 3 Western Chimpanzees (Pan Troglodytes Verus). And I am attempting my hardest to locate the older brother of My (8 years old), and son of Jutta (48 years old). His...
