One thing seems to be going right in 2020! The Iranian province of Semnan took major steps to make the area safer for cheetahs, clearing livestock from 500,000 hectares of Turan, including all of Turan National Park. The effort seems to have paid off. Since March, camera traps have taken clear photos of 21 individual cats. 13 of the cats already have identity cards, meaning 8 were likely unknown to those monitoring the population.
