I don't know if this function exists but can you determine which day we passed each 100,000 mark?
My best guess is that there would have been slow growth up until 2008-9, then a burst in the three years after that, a bit of a lull and then a second pick-up over the past 18 months or so.

Though I imagine we've already hit the mark since Sim's post was about 10 hours ago. What's the average number of posts per hour at the moment?

The counter on the right hand side still shows 799,801 for me, I don't know how regularly it's updated.

Oh yeah, it's updated for me now too. 799, 805 now. And then after I post this you reply that it's now 799,806 and we just continue. 
Does this number include comments in the galleries? I know the post counts don't anymore on the new forum software. Since there are lots of comments under media that are often as good or more relevant than posts in the forum, we're probably actually over a million already.

I think that there are enough possibilities throughout the forum to reach the 800.000 sooner than later, there is enough going on at the moment, so posting just for the sake of posting is not necessary.
The 800,000th poster wins a trip to whatever zoo they can afford to take themselves to visit.
