The beautiful and highly prized Peppermint Angelfish goes on display at Waikiki Aquarium.


When I was there last month it was in quarantine and I missed it!!!!!

The other fish they talk about - Abe's Angelfish - was visible and I managed to get a photo of it, which I will upload shortly. At the time, I had no idea how rare it was too.

Wow that was a really cool video. I cannot believe (well I guess I can) that rich people want to buy it for their own private aquarium instead of letting everyone enjoy it here. The only one on display in the world - wow.
 
I wonder what the adaptive value of mimicking a peppermint is in the deep sea? It must be one of those convergent evolution things:)

That video is very informative and the fish is very beautiful.

As you descend into the ocean the available light obviously decreases and the red end of the visible spectrum is the first area to be affected. Many brightly coloured fish might therefore be quite inconspicuous in their natural habitat.

I'm impressed that it seems to be doing so well with more common tankmates, but apparently once they feed well they're a fairly hardy species. Thanks for posting this Hix :)
