This should not have occured. Yes, this is the terrible place already described by former zoochater Jose in his earlier posts as Deplorable Chihuahua Zoo and Zoologico de Chihuahua, a disgusting ugly foul zoo. You may find these posts on the MEXICO forum. This establishment should have been closed by the Federal Enviromental Agency PROFEPA, but nothing occured after the reports of mismanegment appeared. THis is a private zoo and not responsible to state or municipal governments. Why were tropical animals held when there was no extra heating appartus to backup electrical shortages, which are not unusual in winter here. We mexican citizens know that government authorities often wait until a disaster occurs to finally mobilize action. I hope another accident of this magnitude do not occur again in order that the PROFEPA takes action and removes the animals to better establishments. They did so last year in a zoo at Tizimin, Yucatan. Again, the sad subject of how social conditions are deteriorating in northern mexico, which slides into a situation of profound crisis by which what was once one the most prosperous part of Mexico falls backward to become an area affected by instability that is much worst than the rest of our country.
