Is their any further news on the development of a new Elephant house? I was going to postpone a visit and wait until the elephant house was developed if work was going to start in the near future!
The drawings for the new enclosure have been revealed as part of a dedicated site to this new project.

Quite apart from the deign and construction of the actual building, I think this is an excellent example of a Zoo using its website in a positive and interesting way.
Its very informative isn't it- you can see pretty much how it will all look when finished- good use of their website as you said. I hadn't really expected Blackpool to continue with Elephants, but they have- they have pretty much all the ABC animals on site, bar Hippos.
Thought Blackpool would have been better placed to rehome the lone elephant and concentrate on white rhino, given space available. Could have kept a couple of spp together in the same space and built a much smaller house. Rhinos would be easier to obtain then more asian elephants too.Or Rhino at present
The plan is to home rhinos in the old elephant house enclosure and turn part of the house into a tropical house I believe, probably as an extension to Amazonia?Thought Blackpool would have been better placed to rehome the lone elephant and concentrate on white rhino, given space available. Of course they would have needed to change the logo.

Yeah, they probably don't want to count their chickens before they are hedged. Also are they hatching their bets showing both Asian and African Elephants in the mock ups of the exhibit?
