ABWAK

I have just been reading about ABWAK and the fact that they have a conference/meeting every year.
We were thinking of joining as it seems that you can have an interest in animal keeping and not actually have to be a zoo keeper.

A couple of questions to you folks if I may?

1. Do you have to be a zoo worker or similar to join?
2. Has anyone been to the events or going to the next one?
3. Would a couple of old timer Zoo Fans be welcome?

Thanks in advance.

ABWAK offer 2 types of membership, Professional for people who are actively involved in animal keeping/zoo industry and associate for those who are interested but not actively involved. The link below details it quite well.

Membership

I am a member but havent been to any events, the journal you get RATEL is quite good which all members recieve. The free entry into some zoo's can be worth to membership alone, but not all zoo's are liable to allow associate members in for free.

I joined ABWAK back in the early eighties, even though I live in Australia. I remained a member for many years - I thought it worth the membership fee just to get Ratel.

If I was living in the UK I would certainly renew my membership due to the concessions at various institutions, as Rothschildi outlined above.

I should point out I haven't seen an issue of Ratel for some time, but I imagine it is still a good magazine.

:p
