Lowry Park Zoo has had its AZA-required 5-year accreditation delayed for an entire year. The zoo has a one-year deadline to make improvements to older facilities, including the veterinary hospital, manatee hospital and Florida boardwalk area, and more educational signs interpreting conservation for kids are also required.

I've often heard from ZooChatters that Lowry Park is a second-rate Disney's Animal Kingdom/Busch Gardens type of zoo, meaning that it has a "theme park atmosphere" and thrill-seeking rides. But there is a decent animal collection, and it was included as one of the 60 best zoos in the book "America's Best Zoos".
