Adelaide Zoo Adelaide News 2014

Visited the zoo yesterday and noted a few things.
- Another lot of mara babies have been born. The zoo is now running out of room for them and has decided that they will soon separate the male for a while to halt breeding.
- The Asian aviary has been re-opened after renovations that started in January. Their is new signage on saving rainforests and a new boardwalk over the waterfall. They have moved a number of lories, finches and ringnecks into this aviary. There are also a number of branches close to the path so the birds sit up close to people.
- A number of the pheasant aviaries are empty as this is where these birds were sourced from.
- Karta and Kluet have only been coming out for their feeds recently. Apparently Puspa is not happy with Kluet so a time share is being worked out as she really enjoys the enclosure.
- The new wombat enclosures are finished they now replace all three of the old dwarf mongoose enclosures. They look similar to the old wombat enclosure.
- In the envirodome the bug wall has been finished. It features carnivorous plants, spiders, scorpions, leaf insects, snails, mantids, millipedes and beetles. It looks quite nice and the visitors seem to enjoy it. It certainly adds a bit more to the envirodome but the space is still a bit empty due to a lot of things breaking down.
- A 20 year masterplan will be available for members to view in early 2015 which will detail some of the zoo's planned future projects.
