Advice for an Impulse Tour of European Zoos

Afternoon all,

After my spur-of-the-moment decision to visit Berlin again this past January, I wasn't intending to travel again this summer, instead focusing on my local zoos and trying to visit as many new ones in my little part of the UK as I could. However, I underestimated how quickly I'd get bored (as much as I love it, living in Bath for 2 years is more than enough to see everything ten times over). So, being the astute and financially minded student I am, I've decided to stage another raid of the continent's zoos, but this time seeing more than just Berlin.

My current plan is roughly this:

  • Fly to Berlin on the 15th June, spending the following 2 days revisiting the Zoo and Tierpark
  • Travel to Leipzig early on the 18th, spending a full day at the zoo
  • Travel to Dresden the following day, doing the same
  • Travel to Prague the day after, spending a day and a half at Prague Zoo before flying back on the 21st from Prague

This covers my main zoo desires - visiting Leipzig and Prague, the former of which I annoyingly missed in January, and revisiting the Berlin collections to complete my species roster there. Dresden is a happy accident, as I love the city and I will never say no to African Elephants. However, I'm unsure if Dresden Zoo is worth it for the added cost to my travel plans, without seemingly adding any unique species to the trip. Moreover, one of the zoos I plan to visit local to me - Noah's Ark - also houses African Elephants, which somewhat reduces the urge to visit Dresden.

The dates are the earliest and latest I can travel, but I'm open to returning earlier. Effectively what I'm asking, ignoring the unnecessary yapping that comes free with every post I make, is whether this:

a) is a reasonable itinerary
b) is able to be improved with another collection in place of Dresden
c) should be entirely scrapped, reconsidering where to go overall

Any input from those with better knowledge of collections in that part of Europe would be much appreciated, and apologies for adding yet another prospective trip thread to the forum.
