Alphen aan de Rijn is well-known for its Birdpark but on November 17 rumors came up that an other avifaunial subject was seen in this little town. The first African desert warbler ( Sylvia deserti ) for the Netherlands was seen here and on November 21 it was last seen by it's discoverers. When the news became better known, other birdwatchers started to search for the bird and on November 26 the bird was found again at the same spot. Now numberous birdwatchers came to see ( and photograph ) this little bird.
Sofar this species has been seen in only very few European countries ( Italy, Portugal ( on Meidera ) and almost unknown as aviary-bird, so an escape is very unlikely !
I myself was very near the bird on the 23th. when I visited Avifauna but, because I was at that moment unaware of the African desert warbler, I didn't search for it
