Zoo La Boissière du Doré African elephants at Zoo La Boissière du Doré

I remember going to Zoo La Boissière du Doré with my family in the early 1990s or late 1980s and there were two baby african elephants. I remember they were housed in a smallish paddock with housing that was clearly never going to be big enough for adult elephants.

Does anyone know the story behind this? Where did the elephants come from and what happened to them?
