I have been visiting the Akron Zoo at least yearly since the mid 2000s and, after doing a list of Cleveland Zoo former species, I became interested in Akron Zoo. Former species that I know Akron Zoo once had, a handful of which I personally saw, are:
Chimpanzee
Rhesus macaque
Asian elephant
Barbary sheep
Sun bear
Sloth bear
Wallabies (unsure what species)
Kangaroos (unsure what species)
Barking deer (Indian muntjac)
Sika deer
Himalayan tahr
Silvered-leaf langur
Red-billed magpie
American crow
Pekin robin (I think)
Chinese alligator
American alligator (I think)
Rabbit (domestic)
Groundhog
Burrowing owl
Ossabaw Island hog
Guinea hog
Domestic chicken
Domestic pony
Prairie dog
Thick-billed parrot
Wild turkey
Hognose snake
Koi
Dumeril's ground boa (and I think another snake after it)
Axolotl
Red-tailed boa
The jellyfish and reef species kept in Jellies and Journey to the Reef temporary exhibits, respectively
Various breeds of domestic sheep and goat
White-nosed coati
Various tortoise species (I just remember gopher specifically)
White-handed gibbon
Tamarins (possibly- I think the zoo still keeps golden lion, but I think other species might have been exhibited at one time or another)
Can you guys think of any other former species I missed?
