You've probably noticed, but if you had photos in the gallery and people commented on them, you've probably got a heap of alerts about it (top right corner).
That's an unfortunate quirk about the way the gallery comment threads were merged into the new system. Once you view the alerts, the new alert notification will be reset and you'll only see genuine alerts there from then.
