Emperor Penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri)
Location: Inland Antarctic ice shelves during cooler seasons and coastal regions during the warm months.
- A good handful of the relevant movie characters are this species.
Adélie Penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae)
Location: Coastal rocky shores along the Antarctic continent.
- Some side characters in the movie are portrayed as Adélie Penguins.
Southern Rockhopper Penguin (Eudyptes chrysocome)
Location: Sub-Antarctic waters and coastal islands around the continent, location in the movie isn’t 100% accurate.
- There is only one rockhopper in the whole movie, and he is portrayed as a side character.
Chinstrap Penguin (Pygoscelis antarcticus)
Location: Antarctic islands as well as islands in the South Pacific.
- Only seen briefly in scenes at a zoo/aquarium penguin exhibit.
Magellanic Penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus)
Location: Occurs most commonly near coasts of South American countries but go as far south as the Falkland Islands.
- Only seen briefly in scenes at a zoo/aquarium penguin exhibit.
Little Blue Penguin (Eudyptula minor)
Location: Coastal regions of southern Australia and New Zealand.
- Only seen briefly in scenes at a zoo/aquarium penguin exhibit.
Brown Skua (Stercorarius antarcticus)
Location: Coasts and continental Antarctica, as well as sub-Antarctica.
- Terrorizes our protagonist in one scene, but other than that is only seen briefly throughout the movie.

Leopard Seal (Hydrurga leptonyx)
Location: Due to their hunting lifestyle and slow land movement, they spend most of their time near Antarctic coasts and ice floats.
- Is seen in one scene in a chase sequence.
Southern Elephant Seal (Mirounga leonina)
Location: Sub-Antarctic and Antarctic ice waters.
- Seen in a few sequences in an attempt to warn the main characters.
Killer Whale (Orcinus orca)
Location: All five oceans, particularly common in cooler ocean habitats.
- Seen attacking our main protagonists in one scene.
Human (Homo sapien)
Location: Aliens from an unknown planet.
- Seen in a few scenes, however have one of the greatest effects on the movies plot.

Location: Waters near the Antarctic coast.
- Seen being hunted by Emperor penguins in several scenes.
