I contacted Cricket St Thomas today to find out what animals have been retained...Despite the fact that management had initially stated the collection was only being 'down sized' apparantly ALL animals have now been removed from the site

IF ANYONE IS THINKING OF GOING- THE SITE (EVEN GARDENS) ARE NO LONGER OPEN TO THE PUBLIC-HOTEL GUESTS ONLY.

What a shame that we have lost one of this countries most beautiful zoo's

Yes indeed it is sad that Cricket St. Thomas has closed its gates for good, I had many happy times there as a child when on holiday in the west country, I last visited a couple of years ago blissfully unaware that this would be my last visit, what a lovely setting it was for a zoo, the walk along the valley was most tranquil. I think I am correct in stating that the writer of the television series "To the Manor Born", Peter Spence , was the son in law of the parks first owners the Taylors, Did I wonder it ever fully recover from being called Mr. Blobby World and that dreadful business with the bull elephant, I understand that Mr. NOEL EDMUNDS was at the time involved with the parks management

You are probably aware that it was also filmed there, or at least the opening credits showed the mansion/park setting.

I think after the 'Mr Blobby' era the park never regained quite the strength animal-collection wise it had before, but it was undeniably one of the most attractive settings for an animal collection anywhere in the UK and its loss is indeed a sad one.
