A missed opportunity were the river HIppos and Pygmys at Mareeba wild animal park which were I believe sold off to Bali the only saving grace was one female being obtained by Seaworld which was in the end shipped down to TWPZ which since has bred. They were unrelated to the bloodlines now in Aust. Appears its going to be some time untill a IRA has been put together for any Hippo import none of which has been started at this time.

Hippo are not on our list to import at this stage and as mentioned would not be easy.
If Hippo in Australia are born (which apparently is the case?) when those babies and if they need homes we may look into holding what Australia have to offer though i feel it will not be anytime soon.

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT!!
A SECOND for Altina & the Riverina!!!
ALTINA’S NEW BABY GIRAFFE IS REACHING FOR THE STARS!!

After a 15 month gestation period, “Munzi” gave birth standing up, to a 100kg baby boy. Staff were very excited for the new birth not only for Altina, but for his future role in the Australasian Breeding program, with Males in high demand his birth was a true ‘gift’.

He has been named “Zawadi” which is Swahili for Gift, very fitting for this tall, dark & handsome boy.

Within the first hour, the healthy 6 foot tall newborn was standing, drinking from mum and running around the exhibit!

His proud father “Uthuli” will be officially introduced to his son in the next few days where they can then be a true Family!

Altina’s tallest new born can be viewed in his exhibit with his mother starting today!

Bec, Never meant to put this on this Altina thread was meant to go on the Aust zoo thread, I am well aware of the great work Altina does and rate it in the top 3 progress zoos in the counrty, Am aware there is no IRA for Hippos at this time, it appears our government can only handle one problem at a time!

thanks for the updated species lists, Bec.Surian. :)

A new female Zebra has arrived at Altina from the National zoo!

The 2 female Zebras are together and one of them is looking very pregnant. The Stalion has been moved in with the Ostriches in case he injures the foal when it is born.

The Serval enclosure is looking about finished and the Servals ore no far off arriving.

BABY STRIPES HAS ARRIVED!

Altina are so excited to announce our very first baby ZEBRA!

A first for the Riverina this little boy has been named 'Mstari' meaning stripes in Swahili.

Mstari is running around and eating well. Proud mum, 'Sharni' has definitely proven herself to be an exceptional mother.

Junior stripes can be seen on daily tours or met personally on the behind the scenes 'Giant meets stripes' tour! (Bookings essential & conditions apply)
