Made a trip to Amazona Zoo today. Small collection but nice collection.

Tegu exhibit being repaired in the Tropical House, so Tegu currently in with Iguana.

Zoo hoping to get another Puma this year.

Their remaining Jaguar is 23 years old and they are making plans that when he passes on that the exhibit will be improved and increased in size, with a walkway over the top of the exhibit included, to give an alternative viewpoint. They will be hoping to get sent a pair of Jaguars when these improvements are made.

They are currently looking to source a pair of Giant Otters who they would like to replace the North American River Otter.

A lot of the animals in the collection are quite old but Zoo does have plans to refresh it's stock and is currently looking for some species to join the collection to increase numbers.

They are hoping to get in a Male Toucan this year to join the one they have in the Tropical House.

It's a nice little collection which takes an hour or two to look round.

As I remember it, although it was quite nicely done, the otter exhibit is not massive and wonder if it would really suit a pair of Giant Otters?

Granted it's not the size of Chester's or Yorkshire's, but it would be similar size to what the Chestnut Centre had and what South Lakes has.

Really? I've not seen South Lakes but I remember the Chestnut Centre's pool alone was massive (and seemingly bigger than the entire Amazona enclosure). That said my memory could be playing tricks on me* (or the Amazona enclosure expanded since my last visit).

*I have a little form on this regarding the Twycross giraffe enclosure, for those with better memories than me.

I would hazard a guess that the Chestnut Centres exhibit was bigger than both Yorkshire’s and Chester’s? I think being in the bottom of the valley it was actually really decieving and it extended quite a way back from the pool.

The South Lakes exhibit is significantly smaller than the exhibit which was located at the Chestnut Centre, and which was - as others have indicated - rather larger than it seemed.
