Marwell Wildlife Amur Leopards, Coati and Red Ruffed Lemurs

I went to Marwell today and I was wondering if anyone knew what had happened to two Amur Leopards, Coati and Red Ruffed Lemurs?

When I was at the Leopards enclosure, a lady (who I'm fairly certain worked there) said that the male had gone for a medical, the adult female had sadly passed away and there was no sign of Kiska. It was strange, she was telling three other people loads about the animals, but I'm not sure if it's true so I thought I'd ask here.

Also, where have the Coati gone? The enclosure was completely empty today. No sign of animals having been there for ages. Have I missed something?

Another question, where have all the Red Ruffed Lemurs gone? I saw two in a small indoor housing by the exit, but didn't there used to be like 10?

I did go away on holiday for two weeks in July so things may have happened and I have caught up yet, but it just seemed very strange...

Oh, just thought of another thing, are the Cheetah okay? I only saw one (the male I think) but again, no sign of the other one :S

The Marwell regulars will no doubt fill you in, but the female Amur Leopard has indeed sadly died. The Cheetah in the large enclosure can be very hard to spot; don't know about the others.

I was there on Sunday and saw both the amur leopards. Akin (the father) was initially up on the platform in the smaller enclosure and then later I saw him walking right past the window, and Kiska (the daughter) was initially in her favourite spot up high on the logs and then later on rolling around on the ground (please see photo of her in the gallery).

The coatis were mostly up in the nets and on the high platforms sleeping. Certainly at ground level, the enclosure did appear to be empty because of this.

There was a sign on the window of the red ruffed lemurs' indoor quarters (opposite the ring-tailed lemurs) saying that the enclosure was temporarily empty due to maintenance, so as you say, there were only the two red-ruffeds in the other enclosure (who were both sunbathing).

I saw both the cheetahs. When I went round the park for the second time later in the day, Paka had just been fed and was eating at the top of the enclosure (nearest to the servals) whilst Turkus was walking around the main part of the enclosure.

I hope this puts your mind at rest. I'm sure Akin's medical is nothing to worry about :)

I didn't know that the adult female Leopard had died, that's mighty sad. Does anyone know the cause? The woman at the Leopards said something like "Akin had a medical on Friday, Kiska is... and Akin will get a new girlfriend soon." The woman certainly seemed to know what she was talking about but it was just a shock to hear that Kiska's mother had died. I hope Kiska is alright as I didn't hear what the woman said clearly enough to even guess at.

There wasn't one Coati in the enclosure though, none on the nets, in the bushes or the housing. Only birds that had taken the opportunity. *shrug* I am probably worrying over nothing. Today I didn't see any signs about the Red Ruffed Lemur's enclosure being closed, but where have all the others gone? I swear there were more than 2 or have they moved a lot of the others?

But on the good side, the Ocelot were very active and I actually got to see one of the Anteaters outside! lol! Kwame (the baby Giraffe born in June) is doing great. Lola is growing loads and it looks like there's been a bit of a baby boom with the Przewalski's Horses.

I announced Ascha's death (the mother leopard) at the beginning of July on the following thread:

Regarding Akin "getting a new girlfriend", there is talk about two new leopards arriving from Estonia on the following thread:

The red ruffed lemurs may have been the ones that escaped, according to the following thread:

Ah, thankyou so much mhale! :D

Well, I hope Akin does get another possible mate. It's very sad that Ascha died. :( And that certainly does explain why only two Red Ruffed Lemurs were on show today :S
