This is an attempt to create overview lists of species that occur in the same habitats or at least regions, to showcase potential exhibitions based of geography.

I divide the lists into three different subgroups that are easily available species, potentialy available (as in rare but presentin captivity) and species that can be kept and bred but are for now not available in the region or globaly, but cpuld bw introduced thru professional establishement of an ex situ population or confiscated specimens.

Another additional note could be what other species came closest to create the original aimed at impression.

Introduced species might also be included as they were present in the areas.

Once again I would like to clarify that I never claimed that all zoos must do this, but that it would be nice if at least a few would offer a more representive experience.

Sulawesi - please note that this list is neither be complete nor include any exclusive marine species so far
Geosesarma sp. and Parathelphusa pantherinafreshwater crabs kept and bred
Caridina sp.* (among these longidigita, woltereckae,
dennerli
and more) and Atyopsis moluccensis shrimp
Tylomelania sp.* snails, others were named as well but I could find if they were kept and bred
Sadly terrestrial gastropod conservations programmes are as covered as needed, but to name a few and hopefuly create some awareness Naninia wallacei, Asperitas colorata, Parmarion martensi, Amphidromus sinistralis, Paromoionchis tumidus and Leptopoma perlucidum, seemingly introduced everywhere Lissachatina fulica

Other terrestrial invertebrate, I am not that familiar with the captive status of butterflies except Attacus atlas, Millipedes Spirotreptida sp. "Kendari, Periphetes forcipatus and Cryptophyllium celebicum since most springtails isopods, roaches and whiptail spider are less distinctive to me I daare to claim more or less close related species correctly labeled as such could serve a representive purpose
Fish Marosatherina ladigesi, Telmatherina bonti ,Oryzias celebensis, eversi, matanensis, woworae and wolasi, Nomorhamphus (sp sungai lembo, rex, liemi, sagittarius, celebensis and ebrardtii potentialy more), Mugilogobius hitam rambaiae and adeia
Sadly Amphibia has hardly any species currently kept and bred but formerly were Fejervarya cancrivora
, Fejervarya limnocharis, Ingerophrynus (tho celebensis is native, only closely related species are available) as much Microhyla orientalis was not kept but related species,as Chalcorana eschatia could represent mocquardii, like Rhacophorus and Polypedates sp., introduced are Duttaphrynus melanostictus, Hylarana erythraea and Kaloula pulchra, Occidozyga lima for celebensis
Cuora amboinensis and Leucocephalon yuwonoi turtle, softshell Amyda cartilaginea status debated as introduced
Indotestudo forstenii tortoise
Skinks Tropidophorus baconi,
Lamprolepis smaragdina, Dasia olivacea, Eutropis multifasciata and rudis, Emoia sp.
Gecko
Cyrtodactylus sp., Gekko smithii, monarchus and gecko, Hemidactylus frenatus and platyurus, Gehyra mutilata
Sailfin lizards (Hydrosaurus celebensis and microlophus native to sulawesi, but the other species as potential representives as well)
Varanus togianus, salvator (and melinus stated to potentialy reach the island of sulawesi)
Snakes Candoia carinata, Ahaetulla prasina, Tropidolaemus subannulatus,
Acrochordus granulatus, Xenochrophis vittatus (as representive), Boiga dendrophila, Fowlea piscator, Gonyosoma jansenii, Chrysopelea paradisi, Ophiophagus hannah, Xenopeltis unicolor, Malayopython reticulatus, Hypsiscopus plumbea and some more but I am not as familiar with snake species as other groups of the animal kingdom
crocodiles Crocodylus
porosus (with siamensis once more named as potential migratory, yet not proven)
Birds since birds has the most kept or available number of species I am going to post the avifauna overview separately
Mammals such as bats
Pteropus hypomelanus (still kept) and the following previously or only closely related still Styloctenium wallacei, Acerodon celebensis , Cynopterus and Rousettus sp., with the bear cuscus Ailurops ursinus recently adopted for a european breeding programme I hope a proper back upp population can be created and the species seen at more places, arguably most iconic ofr the island of sulawesi are its Macaca species, with nigra by far most commonly kept, and tonkeana, hecki, maura and ochreata present in more or less smaller numbers in europe or america (but more in asia, so maybe a second or even third could become established as well), Tarsiers have been kept before, but recently not as succesfull as zootierliste states frankfurt managed (some asian husbandries seem to be the case), sadly rodents are not that available, with Prosciurillus being only kept previously, Rattus hoffmanni not at all, as well as Paruromys dominator, Maxomys hellwaldii, Lenomys meyeri, Bunomys chrysocomus and Echiothrix leucura (even endangered), sadly the endemic civet species Macrogalidia musschenbroekii does not seem to kept at western institutions, unlike the introduced Viverra tangalunga and Paradoxurus hermaphroditus, tho speculated to be introduced as well Rusa timorensis (in my opinion the more commonly kept sika deer could equaly serve as representation as well as the dark morph of fallow deer), lowland anoa are happily more common, a another species of bubalus the chinese water buffalo has become an important cultural symbol and found as semi feral population, last but not least are the islands two pig species, the celebs warty pig that can be represented by the visaya warty pig as it was common as the other native species the babirusa
