Anyone into "The River"?

I'll check out the Pilot episode today. Has anyone else seen this show?

Here is a summary from Wikipedia:

Synopsis

Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered. To the millions of kids who grew up watching his nature show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma. Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole's emergency beacon suddenly goes off. At the urging of his mother, Tess (Leslie Hope), Lincoln reluctantly joins her on a search for his father. To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole's cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style. The mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances includes the sexy and resourceful Lena (Eloise Mumford), loyal mechanic Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) and lethal bodyguard Captain Kurt Brynildson (Thomas Kretschmann).

I suspect this should be in the Zoo Cafe forum.

Hmmm..... never ventured there. I assumed that it discussed the eateries at zoos, which doesn't really interest me that much.

I just watched 2 episodes, and I am hooked, by the way. There aren't many Amazonian animals. It's a cross between Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch Project, and Lost, with more than a hint of Anaconda. The Executive Producer is Steven Spielberg, according to the credits.

Identify the snake attached. In the first 2 minutes, he said that he was filming a species that no one had ever seen before. :D

Also, there was a monkey wearing a doll's head. I wonder what kind it was?

PS* The episodes are available on XBOX 360 Live and a couple are free.

Zoo Cafe is about anything non-zoo or animal related, including TV shows and movies.

The snake looks like a badly coloured boa constrictor, but the head is built like an anaconda. It could be a very clever fake (or - highly unlikely - a Bolivian Anaconda).

The excluding the face, the monkey looks like it should be Callimico goeldi. The face is probably CGI.

@nanoboy and whoever else wants to chime in: How did "The River" turn out? Is it worth watching in your opinion?

Well, given your taste in TV shows (re: Terra Nova :p), you may not enjoy it. Indeed, The River has good CGI, has a believable plot, not too bad acting, and is quite exciting!

A man of your taste probably will not enjoy it. :D But to everyone else, I would say this: watch the pilot episode (which is actually one of the best episodes of all), and you will either love it and want more, or you'll hate it. Go on David, break the mould and give a good TV show a chance for once. :p

Well, at least there is one other fan, even if it's a bot.

I did watch the first episode. The premise seemed interesting, but I found the main characters shallow and irritating, especially the son.

Between "The River", "Terra Nova", and "Falling Skies" it seems like Steven Spielberg should stick to making movies rather than television series.

Hmmm..... I suppose that I can agree with you that they are shallow, but no shallower than 'Terra Nova". :D

I approached the show as 1 hour of nail-biting, edge of your seat, scariness, with the living room totally dark, and the sound system cranked up to 11. :D Try that approach, and you'll be seeing doll's eyes looking back at you in the bathroom mirror.
