AquaFoz - New Aquarium Planned at Gateway To Iguaçu National Park

Very interesting news, especially as the aquatic biodiversity of the Paraná is often overlooked and underrepresented compared to that of the Orinoco and Amazon basins. I wonder if some of the other threatened freshwater mammals and birds of the region will be featured too.

Inclusion of marine systems is also interesting. I know very little about the marine ecosystems of the Southwestern Atlantic that far south, but I imagine it's less biodiverse than more tropical regions further north.

AquaFoz has officially opened its doors on November 14th. From the same owners of Bioparque do Rio and AquaRio, the aquarium has an area of about 23 thousand square meters and holds up more than 3.3 million liters of water, with 300 species of both fresh and saltwater.

As it was already stated on this thread, the aquarium focuses on the biodiversity of both the Paraná and Iguaçu river basins, but also features a large saltwater section, in order to represent the encounter of fresh and saltwater, as well as a exhibit featuring the flooded forests of the amazon. The areas and exhibitions, as well as some of the species of the aquarium, can be seen here on their official website: AquaFoz
