Hello, ZooChatters. As you may know, the maned wolf is a species no longer viewable in Japan, and that's what I thought for quite a while. However, evidence has lead me to believe that maned wolves are still around in Japan. So, I've been looking around the Tokyo Zoo Database just to see videos and articles about former species like fossa, Hoffman's sloth and mouse deer. But then, I come across the page for the maned wolf. The profile for the maned wolf listed it being in the zoo. At first, I thought it was an error. But then, when I looked through the different profiles of the other animals, something along the lines of "The animal is not displayed at the Tokyo Metropolitan Zoo", And when I read through the articles of Jig the maned wolf's death, the article did not mention him being the last of his kind in Japan. Plus, I saw a Twitter post made by the official Ueno Zoo account stating that Jig had a child and that he or she was doing fine in some presumably off exhibit area. Here is the post: (22) 上野動物園[公式] on X: "#タテガミオオカミ です。 2013年生まれ、生育の過程で四肢に異常が現れ、現在は園内の動物医療センターで獣医師による手厚い看護のもとくらしています。四肢異常は残るものの歩けますし、それ以外は元気で、ドッグフードや鶏肉の他、トマトなどの植物質もよく食べています。 #飼育展示課長の観察記録 https://t.co/WeSlUDjLBj" / X (twitter.com). All of this evidence leads me to believe that maned wolves are still in Japan, and that Jig's son or daughter is officially the last of his or her kind in Japan. What do you think about this?
