Toronto Zoo Are the Red Pandas back on exhibit?

Hi there,

I was just wondering if anyone can confirm whether or not the red pandas are back on exhibit now?

I know they were off exhibit for the whole winter. Then all of the nice weather came and they were still off exhibit, without being listed on the animals off display page on the Toronto Zoo web site. More great weather came, they still were not there.

Then the latest Collections magazine came and I believe it stated that they 'received' a red panda. The last time I was there was June 1st, and it looked like they were in the process of changing the red panda exhibit to the vacant exhibit to the left of the current one. I was able to see one red panda in a caged area that was between the two exhibits. I'm just wondering if they are in one of the two exhibits now or if they are still in that caged area.

Thanks,
Dave

When I went on June the 6th there were two red pandas on exhibit. But they were in that small part connecting the two enclosures. The Toronto Zoo aren't very up-to-date when it comes to their website.

The reason why they hav been off exhibit all winter is becuase late last year both of there red pandas died. They received two females earlier this year so there still getting thyem used to the surroundings

Of, I did'nt realize Rong Nen had arrived from Akron yet?

I really hope they breed! I didn't even know we had 2 the last time I check on ISIS (a week ago) it said we only had one.

Thanks to all of you who have responded with all of the great information. So, by the sounds of it, they should be on exhibit anytime now once they are used to their surroundings and the possibility of breeding with the new male that just arrived is great news as well. That's unfortunate to hear that the two from last year died.

Thanks again!

I heard that Ferrous and Sweet Pea had died back in the winter. Glad to hear the new ones may be breding. Does anyone know what their names are yet?

Glad to hear he arrived safely, I really hope they breed

As for the names, the only name I know of the three is Rong Nen the male

I was at the Toronto Zoo today and only saw one red panda during my visit. It was still in the middle section (caged area) between the two exhibits. It was such a beautiful red panda, I can't wait until they are on exhibit. The other ones must have been hiding somewhere.
