Bronx Zoo Article About Bronx's Closings

A great editorial about the connection between Astor and the zoo. The part that stood out to me as most relevant was the following:

World of Darkness closed its doors to the public a couple of weeks ago.

The bats, caimans, porcupines, lemurs and other nocturnal creatures remain there, but will not be on view. Zoo officials are deciding where to put them, either among other exhibits at the Bronx Zoo or some other place.

Some animals may have to be transferred to other zoos or wildlife parks around the nation, but only about a dozen animals, not hundreds as has been reported, said Mary Dixon, a WCS spokeswoman.

Even the loss of a few animals - out of the 20,000 that reside in the zoo - is a big loss, she said.

It's interesting to me that Bronx has no plans yet for the animals...or the building itself.
