Asahiyama Zoo is located in Asahikawa City; yes it might be a bit confusing.
Two Amur tigers arrived at this zoo from the U.S. on 25 September 2014 - Zaria (female) from Denver Zoo, and Kyrill (male) from Hogle Zoo.

Three polar bear cubs were born. Two were stillbirths. Mother is 16 year old Pirika from Maruyama who moved to Asahiyama in 2011. Father is 21 year ild Hokuto. This is the first time the zoo had polar bear births after 40 years.
