Chester Zoo Asha given birth.

That's great news. When I was there last week all the lions were inside, they must have coaxed her in some how. Did you manage to get any pictures?

She could of been under the raised platforms? This is where she gave birth and it leaving the cub.

I did manage to get some photos but you cant really see the cub. Unfortunitely news of the cub being born has travelled fast and it was really busy, a crowd of 30-40 people were there just after opening time and then at 12 on my way out, the whole enclsoure was surrounded in place two or three deep!!

The cub is named Shakra - that must make him male. We saw him today (30 Oct 08) playing tug-o-war with mum with mum's dinner.
We spoke to a keeper. They are planning to intoduce Asoka next week. Everyone is rather nervous but they think that as Asha has bonded so well to Shakra that she will stop Asoka from being too rough with him.

Yes, he's male. It was on Chester's website on Tuesday (maybe before). I added it to the photos in the Gallery that I took on Sunday.

Briliant, usually if mother has bonded with cubs she will attack the male before he is even given a chance to play nicely or roughly with the cub.
