What's the story behind Asha? I know she was born at Paignton Zoo in 1998 and moved to Rome Zoo as a young adult. As far as I am aware she never had a single cub the whole time she was there and was moved to Chester in June 2006. Was she with a male in Rome? Why did she not breed at all if she was with a mate? Was it just bad luck or was there other factors? Thanks
 
Asha did have a mate in Rome Zoo, called Bellamy (born in London Zoo in 1993) he was transferred to another Twycross zoo in 1995 with a female, and then moved to Rome in 2001. They did not breed together for whatever reasons, whether she was too young, or Bellamy was too old. Asha then moved to Chester (as well all know), and Bellamy started to suffer from arthritis, and there are news reports about gold chains given to him to ease his arthritis. He died in 2007 of chronic arthritis

Sorry, i meant Twycross zoo!!

The female there in 1995 was 'Rakhsa', i don't know anything about her though
