Founded by the late Clinton Keeling in 1954 it was the leader in zoological education in the UK at the time. pioneering many educational activities now common place in most large zoos. Unfortunatly it closed in 1971 due to a marriage breakdown. Anyway i would be really interested to hear if anyone has any memories of the place, or old photographs?

The best place to start would be Clin's two books on the place "One Man and his Animals" and "The Ashover Zoological Garden". The latter is available on Amazon. I'm not sure that Clam publications is still operational and whether you can get any of the titles directly.

Also there is Jill Keeling's book "Ask of the Beasts" which was published many years ago when the place still operated. I think it is not uncommon if you do a second-hand book search.

Three guidebooks were published.

I'm sure that there are Zoochat members who visited. Reptile1517? Mike G?

Well, I certainly have memories of the place.
Unfortunately, they are not good memories.
I only made one visit to Ashover and, never having been much interested in photography, I didn't take a camera with me. This is something I have regretted ever since.
Let's just say that the image of Ashover as portrayed in books, and the reality of the site, were two different things.
