Auckland Zoo Auckland Zoo News 2011

I visited again yesterday, not much new news to report (Te Wao Nui updates here: http://www.zoochat.com/17/te-wao-nui-review-236615/) except that:

-Although there is now a gate up semi-blocking the native aviaries by the old kiwi house, with a sign saying no animals on display here (note it did not say you couldn't go past into this area), there were still a pair of brown teal in their aviary. The blue duck pond had been drained.

-A concrete bridge has replaced the wooden one you cross to enter Hippo River by the flamingoes. Some heavy machinery was also working between the old Elephant and Giraffe Houses, but I don't know what they were doing.

-I suspect the banded rails in the Australian lorikeet aviary have been moved into Te Wao Nui's Wetland aviary.

-Still no sign of the flying foxes.

The two 'groups' (one an all female pair, the other a family group of four) of small clawed otter have interchanged exhibits.
