Australasian Asian Elephant Population 2024

Coming in late in the thread regarding to Putra Mas, it is also possible that they would tether him and winch him towards the crate. As in “coaxing” him along. It has done in the past with positive results. Then of course once crated and on road he likely will settle down.

Thought this would be somewhat news considering the recent discussion surrounding Putra Mas and his crate training;

I saw a video of Putra Mas engaging in his crate training from a few days back. He entered the crate which is really positive to see considering the issues they had with him back in the day.

Fingers crossed this time around he's developed more trust with his keepers and everything will all go to plan; it seems like things are progressing well thus far. Really exciting to see however!

It’s really encouraging to see Putra Mas is entering his crate given the transfer is still at least 5-6 months away. That’s a significant amount of time to build on that trust, refine shutting the door behind him once he’s inside and acclimatising him to the noises they’d anticipate he’d hear on the day with the crane moving him.

It was equally fascinating to see Auckland Zoo crate training their three hippopotami on the first season of The Zoo and how the keepers would similarly stand on top of the crates and bang around to simulate the transport noises. Elephants being more sensitive and less food driven (hippos just follow the cabbage) would be an additional challenge.
