Australasian Binturong Population

The September 2004 edition of ZooNooz shows two binturongs at Taronga as part of a story about enrichment, although their names aren't given - so I'm not sure if that meant Emas and Pepper were actually imported in 2004 (even if they might not have gone onto public display until 2005), or if Mr and Mrs B were both still alive then (the photo doesn't super look like the current exhibit).

The litter born 26/12/2007 included Baru and a female named Impi. The third individual had died by the time of the litter's birth being reported in ZooNooz in June 2008. I believe Indah had passed away by June 2008, as she is not mentioned at all in the magazine article announcing the birth of Impi and Baru.

I think that litter was the one born on The Zoo - although if that is the case, then the litter was originally missexed as three males. I'm pretty sure the episode mentions Pepper's age, but I can't remember it off the top of my head. I'll try and track down the episode again to see if any more details can be gleaned.

Great research, thank you for sharing!

Prior to the import of Emas and Pepper, Taronga housed a pair called Mr and Mrs B. @steveroberts would have more specific dates to share, but I don't believe they ever bred and had both passed away by 2005.

I have old Taronga Zoo Friends magazines which would have some of the details about Pepper's litters - I will have a look through my collection and see what I can report back.

Oh good old Mrs & Mr B, they were so cool, loved them <3. Yeah they never did breed unfortunately but the zoo tried to with them. Can see them sleeping in their exhibit in at the start of this footage from 1998 posted on TZ history thread.

..
Mr & Mrs B arrived at the zoo 1 July 1993 from Malaysia (believe Mrs B was born c1988 and Mr B was born c1990). Mrs B passed away at the zoo on the 2 August 2005 and Mr B shortly after her on the 7 October 2005.

.

Great work on the list @akasha
