Avocets

Has anyone any experience with Avocets. I have been led to believe that they are hard to keep and are prone to drowning?

I think I am correct in saying that I have seen avocets at Pensthorpe, Blackbrook and Paradise Park/Cornwall. Certainly the former does very well with them.

They are also held at Living Coasts and London Zoo's Blackburn Pavillion.

Do you know if they are kept with natural ponds or hard based ponds (like concrete)
