Yes, it's another baby giraffe. He was born on Sunday morning to Sonia, the beautiful female who joined us with her daughter in summer. Sorry we didn't get the message on earlier, but been busy with the Press and, of course, Fred the weatherman. Promise there'll be pics and a video on here tomorrow.

Well seeing as none of the ones already their are pure,then yes you are correct its another Hybrid,but it should be the last one to be born at Blackpool.

I do think the enclosure is to small for the giraffe , take it they will move the male on when he is old enough.

Yes the young male will move as soon as he`s old enough,think he will go to Port Lympne.

The male named Timber moved to Folly Farm Zoo he also has been renamed Rian.

It may have been that the immigrant was already pregnant on arrival and the male's birth was purely accidental.

I take it they will now disallow/cease breeding as per TAG recommendations?

Blackpool originally took 0:3 Hybrids from Fota. One of them was pregnant and Timber/Rian arrived shortly after

Another 0:2 (mother and female calf) then arrived (possibly from Belfast or Fota again?) the mother was already pregnant when the transfer went ahead. Hence the arrival of the second male calf

There was only one male Giraffe born(Rian) the other was a female named O'Grady.

Goodness me, how many Giraffe have Fota got?! The majority, if not all, of Banham's female Giraffes came from Fota, one of them pregnant too...

According to ISIS Fota now have 2.8 pure Rothschild's giraffe .

According to ISIS Fota now have 2.8 pure Rothschild's giraffe .

That sounds about right for the number of Giraffes they now hold,but if they are all Baringo I`m not sure will try to check it out unless one of our friends from Ireland can tell us!
