Dudley Zoological Gardens Baby gibbon and update

I have a habbit of not putting threads on here or commits with out good reliable sources
but I wish someone would tell me what they're doing with the Bear Ravine and Bear Pits this seems top be closely guarded secret at the moment

All sounds very interesting lol!!

Hope they don't take to much of the hunting dog enclosure! Although the orang's on the left definately need more room!

It was lovely seeing the dogs again - we miss them at Colchester especially Stumpy (sorry very forgetful of names lol ) the one with no tail (we always called him stumpy!) He used to be the lowest ranking male and got picked on all the time but after the female died he rose through the ranks to be the top dog :)

Good news that they may be using their lovely buildings for better use!! Can't believe they don't make more of them as they are so much more interesting than the castle (which has suffered some awful restoration and changes over the years)

I've been told today that changes to the Tecton Buildings depends on some funding they have put in for.
Also the Snow Leopards will be put together when the female is right for breeding as Snow Leopards are solitary animals in the wild and only meet up to breed.
Let's hope everything goes to plan

But surely they can't go on living with one out and one shut away in a small den everyday?
They need to sort out a bigger enclosure where they can both be outside with a divide between the two, best idea I can think of is move them to the Asiatic bear pit when something sad happens to the bear, it's bigger then what they have now and can be made to look good with the addition of more bushes and a pool if needed.

I understand your point completely (Chizlit), but as I understand it the enclosure was built for 2 Snow Leopards and the Bear pits will when something unfortunatly happens to the the Bear and the Tiger will be turned into a large Primemate Exhibit with the Old Polar Bear Pit being the indoor enclosure.
They will then develope two new enclosures one for a breeding pair of Black Bears and one for a Breeding pair of Sumatran Tigers as thier seems to be a get up and do thing mentality at the zoo these days. The Bear Ravine could become used for one of the formentioned and if they move the Chimp's then there enclosure could be used for the other.
These are just ideas about the were abouts of the enclosures and not a definate

In my mind I can't see the bear / tiger pits working for primates , it will need too much work.
However I do like the idea of new enclosures for tigers / bears, hope it does happen, but I feel this is some time away.

Ignore this, I started to post and then changed my mind (but couldn't get out of the page without typing something:o)

Going to the zoo tomorrow 8th Dec if there are any photo's you want me to try and take or any questions you want me to try and find answers for let me know
All being well will try and get new photo's for the gallery

Failing a masterplan or renovation plan ...., what are the current plans for the immediate future for Dudley Zoo?

What is the plan for the indoor and outdoor exhibits for the orang utans? Do they now have breeding?

Any further species to be added in the near future?

I think it will become clear over the next few months exactly what these renovations entail. I know the indoor areas area being enlarged by incorporating the old public corridor into the animals' living space. Viewing will be from outside. Not sure exactly what is happening outside.

re breeding; the pair Jaz(female) and Jorong(male) some months back produced an infant that died. So I guess she may well be pregnant again now. The older pair Azimat,(female, mother of Jaz) and Ben(male, nonbreeder) have never bred together- Azimat might well breed with Jorong though.
