The Shell Museum is a museum for seashells on Sanibel Island. They also had a collection of live mollusks in aquariums and we’re granted AZA accreditation back in September.

The museum recently announced that the vast majority of their living collection was wiped out during Hurricane Ian and they are attempting to salvage the equipment for future use.

How awful! They had a really outstanding collection of live mollusks that I am very glad to have seen last February before the hurricanes. I do hope they are able to recover their collection to what it once was, although I’m not sure exactly where they could source new mollusks from .

This was the place I was most worried about with the hurricane Their building still exists, at least, and a few of their animals survived, which is more than a lot of others in the area can say. Hopefully that AZA status helps them recover, too.
