HI I am working at Bamako zoo in Mali, we are looking to build links with zoos in Africa and are joining PAZAAB soon, would be good to hear from anyone working at zoos in Africa.
The poster is looking to establish links with other zoos in Africa. There are some zoo staffers from the region on the forum I guess. It would probably be worthwhile to hook up with similar individuals in European zoos. Know Awely?
@SA You should be taking up the challenge and not talking of the political climate in Mali (as if our Bamako staffer can do anything with what is happening up north).
I ama no longer working at bamako zoo. they downsized all work by non french personnel due to change in project manager
the zoo is almost finished and has some great new enclosures, that i helped design. however they have very few animals and cannot bring in while the trouble is going on. they are bringing in lots of surplus stock from French zoos. they are not pursuing captive breeding or conservation programmes as I suggested and are having just a good collection of animals. i have not been since december and all i know is the project has been delayed several times becuase of the troubles and head keeper was bitten by primate and been back in france for a while now.
i am now working with Abidjan zoo - who despite lack of funds have some great conservation potential and interesting collection
it is not open to the public at the moment, and they have very few animals and are waiting to import many surplus from french zoos. the project finishes soon, and the zoo will look very good, becuase of new buildings and infrastructure, however many more things to sort out - animal, managment etc i no longer work there and am now at Abidjan zoo
