Living Coasts (Closed) Bank Cormorants

I saw the two male bank cormorants at Living Coasts last Friday , both have built a nest on the rock-face by the entrance to the puffin etc. area .

Particularly liked the new Mangrove exhibit , many of the fish imported last year have grown well . The four-eyed fish have started breeding , very cute babies swimming with adults !

Sure they will have no trouble finding one as it would be a good pr for the airline.
Sadly it is not that simple.
Due to the new security regulations it is almost impossible to transport a working incubator. We have been trying for around 4 weeks now on their behalf and have only recently made some head way. With any luck there may be a solution found in the next week or so.

Wow, are the airliners silly? coz they are fairly rare! + cant they just bring in birds or will they get stressed...

In theory they can bring in birds, however the point was to collect eggs so the birds double clutched in the wild and there is detriment to the colony.

If the eggs cant be shipped, it would mean collecting eggs, hand rearing in south africa and then shipping young birds which would be much more stressful for the animals than shipping eggs which dont know what is happening to them!

Excellent news - hope all goes well with the incubation and rearing. The two males already at Living Coasts seem to build nests every year so it looks as if the enclosure suits the species - once there's a potential breeding pair we'll hopefully see some eggs.

At least they are going to bring some more eggs in next year again so fingers crossed for bit more luck this time round.
