On their Instagram account, Batu Secret Zoo posts a quiz about their new animal. I've solved the quiz, but I want to see what other zoochatters guess.

Can you guess it?

A-N-G-T-I R-T-O-E-T

Hint: Other country in Southeast Asia that kept this species is Singapore

Also, they give the first look at the new animal exhibit. Which is wonderful, I really like the mesoamerican theme of the exhibit.

I solve it it's "not a tiger".:p Wait, I left out a "t" :D

On a serious note, I do solve it and it's a great addition. Not as rare as long-beaked echidna or sunda clouded leopard, but still a very good species.

Singapore is currently the only zoo in Asia to have this species, not just Southeast Asia! I'm impressed Batu Secret Zoo managed to get this species. I was told Singapore Zoo had a hard time acquiring them from the European holders.

Definitely, a fun quiz!

If one knows what species are rarely maintained in S.E. Asia and only Singapore Zoo would have them, it should be relatively easy to discern: G-I-A-N-T O-T-T-E-R!!!

The zoo didn't post any videos or pictures of the giant otters yet, but they already post both video and picture of the beautiful giant otters exhibit

Here's the picture of the entrance of the giant otters underwater viewing area

I am surprised that EEP was reluctant to send any otters to Singapore/Asia. Fow a number of years, breeding in Europe was largery postponed / prohibited because it turned almost impossible to place youngsters, also population has very narrow genetical profile (aka inbreeding). Situation changed, several pairs have breeding recomendations again. But problem stays the same. Europe needs new unrelated animals from S.America and more zoos building for otters to increase holding capacity.

True. For the EEP giant otter it is of some urgency to import new bloodlines. If the program in Brasil takes off (once more, viz old success in Brasilia Zoo et cetera) with European support and the local zoo species manager manages to interest a good number of the Brasilian zoos still maintaining giant otter that would be extremely helpful.

I assume the Jawa Timur Park / Batu Secret Zoo giant otter will be imported from European zoos?

Any news on both rhino species? They hold 2 female white rhino (with a male intended for import) and a male Indian rhino from Edinburgh Zoo (for which a mate is intended ...)!

There's no information yet about the rhinos.

It seems like Singapore transferred a pair of male giant otters to Batu Secret Zoo, rather than a male/female pair (all the otters in Singapore are related so they won't be allowed to breed with one another).
