Beavers are moving into permafrost regions as the climate warms. The channels that the beavers create in permafrost causes permafrost melt by exposing it to constantly flowing water. The permafrost contains high concentrations of carbon and methane which are released into the atmosphere as they melt. In this way beavers are contributing to climate change.
