had a feeling about the Toucans.
So the Iguanas ARE in the reptile house? And when it is refurbished in Winter will it be made bigger?
Possible time frame for Tigers and the Asian species?;)

Just two questions, if anyone is able to answer them, please do...

1. Any progress on locating a male tree kangaroo? People where talking about a possible import from the USA, but all has gone quiet since...

2. How is the new male Francois langur doing? Is he fully integrated in the group yet and if so, is there any news on mating behaviour / possible pregnancies? I really love langurs and i hope we can keep some species alive in Europe, there are so many hanging on but perhaps not viable...

Any updates? New news?
I saw on the website that 2 new Kangaroos have been born, but I can't read the info on it. Some sort of error. Somebody post some info on them and other happenings in the zoo?:p

The two joeys are several months old now and out fo the pouch, they are as yet unnamed but I'm pushing for scooby roo and ruby roo :P, we imported 3 females from Paris during the year and one of the joeys belongs to a female from there, called 'Darling' the other belongs to one of belfasts females 'green tag' their father is our big male Randolph, we also imported a young male from Blackpool zoo a couple of months and he is now intergrated with the mob.

There are some other arrivals / departures from other sections bu not sure what, so will let AL fill you in.

Thank you for the information! So does that mean "scooby roo" and "ruby roo" are male and female respectively? :P

Hi all, just a quick update.

There is no news on a male tree roo from the states coming but we have satrted feacal sampling to find out if our female is cycling regularly.

The male francois is indeed doing well and mating has taken place, unfortuantely we lost one of a females after a miscariage a few months ago. Three new chinese females have been imported to the EAZA population recently as new founders so the future is looking good for the species.

Our two female black-footed cats have had two kittens each, three weeks apart. The first two are sexed as 1.1. This now means we are holding 8 of this beautiful felid at the zoo. Unfortuantely they will remain offshow for the forseeable future.

New arrivals include several new bird species in the next few months including wattled jacana, bali starlings and sun bittern for the rainforest house.

A few other species are due to arrive within the next few months but its abit hush hush for the minute.

Nice to see yet more nice Bird species been added to keep Belfast Bird Keeper busy!

@Al
Do you know, which Zoo is going to keep the three new francois langurs imported from China??

Thanks Al and keep us posted :) great news about the francois imports, a shame about the loss of the female though... Hopefully we can get this species nicely established in european zoos.

Al, is there hope that the sifaka female is pregnant again? I had a look at ISIS and the situation of this beautiful species in european zoos looks bleak unless some female offspring are born very soon. Breeding seems to go well, but only Besancon had a female born in the last years, all other surviving offspring have been males.

We do hope the sifaka is pregnant again but to be honest im not 100% sure as I havent heard anything. More females indeed would be very good. The keeper who cares for the sifaka hand reared a young male for a few months this year but it unfortunately didnt make it. :(
