Bervie Zoological Park Discussion Thread

I was taking a trip down memory lane, and suddenly remembered the existence of this private zoo. Supposedly it is still running just outside of Kincardine Ontario, but is struggling because of the last two years.

I went when I was quite young. It was on a farm on the highway into Kincardine, and there was no signage or advertising whatsoever. You had to book a tour through facebook or call the owner, and you could not just show up as this was just a family's private collection on their farm. I recall them having regular farm animals, blue macaws, lemurs, small monkeys, tortoises, turtles, brown bears, tigers, and lions. There were much more, but that was quite a while ago so its a little foggy

Looking through their facebook, some of the more notable species they had (and may still) are addax, barbary sheep, eland, nilgai, japanese macaque, sandhill crane, african crowned crane, african crested porcupine, african wild dog, and eurasian lynx. As far as I can tell, they still do have black bears, tigers, and lions as well.

Out of curiosity, does any one else remember this roadside zoo? Did any of you visit it? Do you remember any stories or news articles? I have put out a call to friends and family to send me any memories or media they may have of the zoo, and I will be contacting them to see if they will give me any history or collection info.

Here are some links to what I COULD find, but I think I am going to have to do some in person investigating at the local archives next time I visit the folks back home.
