Best and worst zoo/aquaria in Indonesia

I'd have to disagree here, though note that I've only been to BSZ, The darkness does allow the animals to be more comfortable, while it seems the Surabaya Nocturama combines bright lighting and a lack of hiding spaces to make their animals generally more active.
The Nocturama, while being a nocturnal house in a Indonesian zoo (Which is a plus), is incredibly flawed, which I indeed agree with you.
  • Lack of shelter and foliage for the animals to be comfortable at the cost of visibility for the guests
  • Aside from Sunda pangolin (Itself weirdly in a mixed exhibit with sugar glider and four-toed hedgehog), the animals are very generic (Especially with the addition of an albino Burmese python, for some reason)
  • It basically being a recycled exhibit in what I presumed previously a row of old exhibits, hence the cement flooring and artificially-painted walls of the exhibit

I feel like this being the first safari park in Indonesia and being built rather early in 1980 (Also due to proximity with Jakarta as mentioned), definitely are what makes it very popular and had cultural impact. Aside from the giant pandas, polar bear, and maybe also snow leopard, these animals aren't really that popular or barely well-known for ordinary guests to visit alone.
Worth noting that Batu Secret Zoo have a pair of golden takin off-display, arriving from the Czech Republic in 2021. Though, this still made Indonesia the only SEA country to held this animals in captivity.
By the way, how long will the golden takin survive in Jatim Park 2? Because there is no documentation of this animal on Instagram or other social media.

How big do you think the arboretum area at GLZ is?
Well, no idea, thats why I'm asking you :p

Aside, I had done digging myself. The arboretum or the zoo's botanical garden is around 20 hectares (2009 estimate). Though I feel its unlikely to fully turn the garden into another attractions like a safari park (It being a designated protected forest after all), but we'll see.

The pair are still alive and well as of August of this year, though there had been no confirmed planned date for them to be displayed (Supposedly in the current blesbok exhibit). Them not going to be displayed until some times later probably what makes the zoo's social media team not doing content around them, I mean why would you advertise something that guest would most likely wouldn't see yet soon?

Actually, 20 hectares is the total area of GLZ including the parking area. If I ever measured it on Google Earth, it was around 2 hectares, twice the size of Kampung Satwa in Lembang Park & Zoo.
