I returned to Madrid and Valencia's city collections after two years and all the places look well maintained and with some nice improvements. Faunia Sombras Silenciosas complex is the one I want to mention in particular, since not many of this type left on the continent. Without being too overexcited - this is probably the second best Nocturnal House in Europe at the moment.

Species list:

Northern Luzon Giant Cloud Rat
Moholi Bushbaby
Nancy's Ma Night Monkey/ Striped Skunk
Aardvark
Brush-tailed Bettong/ Moholi Bushbaby
Eastern Quoll
Binturong
Egyptian Fruit Bat
Seba's Short-tailed Bat
Fennec Fox
Ground Cuscus
Fahaka Puffer Fish
Southern Tamandua/ Southern Three-banded Armadillo
Ocelot
Crested Porcupine
Brazilian Porcupine/ Moholi Bushbaby
Beech Marten
Hoffmann's Two-toed Sloth
Four-toed hedgehog* - not entirely sure
Electric Eel
Dwarf Mongoose

Have you visited all major nighthouses in Europe? I've only been to Faunia and London.

The night sections with more than 2 species of the top of my head, I have visited Frankfurt, Faunia, Berlin, London, Randers, Poznan, Krakow, Plzen, Prague, Jihlava, Olomouc, Apenheul, Cotswold, Sheldon, Chester, Pairi Daiza cript, Wilhelma Tera Australia

Now closed Antwerpen, Copenhagen

I forgot to mention the Underground World at Osnabruck and few Nocturnal Aistralian Houses at Budapest

Ive been to all of those mentioned above plus many others around the world. - in Europe I would say its touch and go between Faunia and Frankfurt. On a world basis, Henry Doorly and Alice Springs Desert Park would be up there too...not forgetting a whole nocturnal zoo of course in Singapore;)

I'd go with Faunia Madrid too, Kerzers, Berlin and the now defunct Bristol all come to mind as well.

My pick for the best nocturnal house in Europe would be the Grzimek House in Frankfurt aswell, atleast in terms of visitor experience.
Due to the massive amount of fascinating and rare species, combined with the clever structure of the building and the fact that the Grizmek House is a rather well lit nocturnal house in comparison to others of its kind, allowing for better visibility of the animals.
The complex is especially impressive if you take the time of it's opening into consideration, since the Grzimek House has been standing for more than 40 years, making this building particularly innovative and ahead of it's time.
Yet the enclosure complex has aged somewhat in it's over four decades of existence. In terms of animal husbandry and quality/size of the enclosures the house can't always keep up to modern standards, predominant is the lack of outdoor exhibits for most animals.
However over the years several possibilities for outdoor access for some species have been added, such as outdoor enclosures for small-clawed otter or white headed sakis.
Still the Grzimek House is most definetly one of the best and most impressive nocturnal houses in Europe and my personal favourite.
