This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for Black Rhino's in the UK. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to perhaps list the enclosures in order of what they determine to be the best.

Chester are currently strong leaders with over 60% of the vote. This is no surprise, with their excellent reputation worldwide for caring for Black Rhinos in captivity.

The Port Lympne photo shows the Guinea baboon paddock....

Yes, as @Maguari says this definitely used to house Rhino's. However, having not visited Port Lympe for a quite a few years I didn't realise this had changed. I will will try to find a photo of the new enclosure. What are your thoughts on the new exhibit?

The black rhino at PL are held in at least 4 or 5 massive encloses in addition to those on the safari truck drive ( the biggest black rhino exhibit in the UK by miles if they are still in there,?)
The PL herd black rhino exhibits are pretty much all somewhat connected. Yes, they are enormous grassy yards and certainly from an animal welfare and husbandry\management point of view among some of the best enclosures. Visitor-wise, people might - and some probably do complain about the lack of visibility -. Their breeding success over the years with black rhino breeding is also in the top category (with Chester and Dvur Kralove).

Thanks for your replies. It certainly sounds like a contender, though it has a tough job as Chester is also excellent when it comes to Black Rhino exhibitory.

At the time it was taken there were both species in this paddock - you can see a rhino in the shot (by the fence at the right). No idea if this is still the case!

I've seen a rhino(s) with the baboons previously also. I think one of them was their oldest female Rukwa. Haven't noticed any on my latter visits though.

Chester's indoor rhino viewing is very variable though- it consists of one modern display(Tsavo building) one older display (old Rhino house, closed(?) to public) one building with no indoor viewing and one or more(?) offshow barns. But of course you will always see some rhinos, even if its only part of their total holding.

The old rhino house is closed and has been for as long as I can remember, I'm 18 so probably 15+ years now.

Poll closed. Congratulations to Chester who won the poll for Best UK Black Rhino comfortably as a result of their excellent exhibit, with multiple paddocks and terrains available for their Rhinos. This is now the third win for Chester following their success in both Orang-utan categories. A mention for Port Lympne who did well to come second despite the fact there were no photos of their current exhibit.

Port Lympne: 11.8%
YWP: 8.8%
