Best Vintage Zoochat Photo Nominations

I know we've already had a best photo competition, but this is different! I want to find out which is zoochat's favourite pre-2000 took photo. The photo should have an interesting story, and even better if personal to the photographer. It does not have to be technically good, but... enjoyable and nostalgic.

There will five nominations, and the first five nominations will be through to the poll. Please nominate now!

The following image taken by bongorob of a captive Hainan Black-crested Gibbon seems appropriate, considering this taxon is potentially only a few short years from extinction - in which case it will be the first known ape species to go extinct since Homo floresiensis some 12,000 years ago.

My nomination is this image of 'Siam' the very large bull Indian elephant at Vincennes. I saw him a couple of times in the '70s and he was one of the most impressive animals that I have ever seen. I wish I had managed to get a photo as good as this one.

My nomination is for the following image of Cuddles the killer whale by Gentle Lemur, mainly because I can't quite believe the pool held a whale at one point!

mm, yes, but it is just a scan from a 1960s zoo book. It wasn't taken by Zebraduiker.

I took the purpose of the thread to be for photos taken by Zoochatters (i.e. the uploader). That may be my misinterpretation.

Yeah, that was my assumption too.

If not, I'd like to change my nomination to this image of a African Golden Cat held at Zoo Berlin in the 19th century :p

This picture was taken by Steve Romo. He gave me permission to post some of his remarkable photos here on ZooChat.

Middle Man posted 25 images of rare species from this photographer, but I know nothing more about him.

If this breaks any rules, please do not include this photo. I don't like Chlidonias's suggestion that the uploader should nominate one of his/her own images (although I will abide by the majority view).

I don't think that is what Chlidonias is suggesting - he is suggesting that the photo should have been taken by the person who uploaded it to the gallery, not that photographs posted in this thread should only be nominated by the original uploader.

That said, I think that old photographs posted by a user on behalf of another - such as the one you uploaded - would be fine in this circumstance. It's photographs from old zooguides and so forth which are borderline I suspect.
 
I know the circumstances behind Middle Man's photos. Steve Romo died a few years ago. He was largely responsible for the Sumatran Rhino and Giant Eland imports into the US.

that is exactly right. The chosen photos, in my view, should be photos taken and uploaded by a Zoochatter (and I think Middle Man's uploads are acceptable in this vein).
 
Clarification!

The nomination of a photo is up to the discretion of zoochat members. As nobody has yet so far objected it is in the final shortlist. Remember however, all photos should have a certain 'personality' and have a story. Personally, I believe a guide book photo does not fit into these categories.

There are only five nominations (the first five nominations) so could an administrator please look the forum to prevent more nominations being added.

Unfortunately I have been ill recently, but now I am better I will set up the poll.
